Hi, I’m Gabriela, newborn photographer based in North London. Newborns are best to photograph before they reach 14 days of age. A newborn session can take place in my small home studio in East Finchley or your location. I have all the props, kits, headbands, baskets, colorful wraps and blankets so you don’t need to worry about a thing but you can always bring your own props.
Each session is uniquely style included your preferences as well as my clean and minimal style. I approach every picture individually and I try to be as effective as possible. During the session, we take a wide variety of natural and prop images of your newborn baby and also beautiful family portraits. Please, scroll around my gallery and see how emotive each picture I take will be for you.
Newborn sessions are held from 10 am – 2:00 pm in my home North London studio due to this being the best time to get sleepy images. Weekend availability is not guaranteed. Home sessions can be done at the midi and maxi packages. A bright bedroom or living room will be a good place for session.
How old are the newborns you typically photograph?
The best time to photograph newborns is between 5-10 days (10 days old is the best). This is when babies are sleepiest and easiest to photograph.
How long do newborn photography sessions last?
Your newborn session can take up to 4 hours and the reason for this is your newborn will need feeding, cuddles and cleaning throughout the session.
Do I need to prepare any props or accessories to my newborn session?
I have all the props in my studio but remember, safety always comes first so I prefer a minimal usage of them. I never photograph babies in glass bowls or in positions that could be harmful. I prefer instead blankets, knit hats, and headbands. You can prepare objects that have special meaning to you but please let me know earlier if you have any personal items you’d like to incorporate.
What can I do to help session go smoothly?
I will ask you to keep your baby awake up to 1 hr before the session if possible. Before the session start, there will be time to feed and change your baby. This should help them to settle into a nice deep sleep, ready to get started. If you are breastfeeding, it is best to keep a bottle of expressed milk on hand for use during the session. Pacifiers are also extremely helpful for allowing me to calm your baby during the session.
What clothes should I wear for our session?
A beautiful family portrait is all about the emotion. It really is not that important what you wear as long as you all match. However, I do think that more plainclothes work better than bright colours and bold patterns (white, bluish, etc. is ok).
Will flash light harm my baby?
Absolutely not, I have never witnessed any reaction to the light from newborn babies, asleep or awake. The light that is emitted from my equipment is no brighter than that which comes through your window at home on a bright overcast day. But if I only have occasion I prefer natural light.
Can my older children be included in some pictures with my newborn baby?
Yes, in Midi and Maxi packages. Having a new baby in the family is a very exciting and special time for everyone. I’ll capture that with pleasure. In Midi and Maxi packages is no charge for other family members to take part in your session.
What happens if my baby starts crying, gets fussy or gets hungry?
It sometimes happens but no worry because session can take up to even 4h. A lot of smile and a bit of patience and everything will be good. It’s important to start the photo session with a “full” baby. However, we can take a feeding break during the session.
